I believe it is so important to count our blessings.
Gratitude is essential for a happy, healthy mind. Acknowledging the simple things, everyday occurrences, and the stuff we often take for granted can be both humbling and empowering.
I was lucky enough to live at the Ahimsa Yoga Ashram Nicaragua where I learned many life lessons, skills and knowledge which have helped to shape how I live my life today - and I would like to share this one with you.
This is fun to do, and takes no real effort or time out of your day. I have taken this trick into my everyday life and it has (on more than one occasion) brought me back into the moment, calmed me down, centered me, and reminded me of just how much I have to be grateful for.
Before each meal at the Ashram, we would go around in a circle everyone would say at least one thing they are grateful for that day (say you eat three meals a day, that's three things to be grateful for!)
It is so simple, and so effective! I find it helps brings me back into the moment and reminds me that I really have so much to be grateful for.
So, I hereby invite YOU (yes, you. The person reading this right now) to acknowledge something you are grateful for every time you sit down to eat a meal this week.
What do you have to lose?
It's also a great way to set the tone of mealtime vibes when you are with family and friends.
Whenever I sit down to enjoy a meal with family or friends I simply encourage them to join me by saying something like "Hey guys, before we start eating I like to say out loud something that I am grateful for today and it would be so nice if we could go around the table and have everyone join in. Do you mind?" This approach has always been well received for me, and it's interesting learning about what makes those around you feel happy.
Remember, it can be ANYTHING; such as being grateful for the sunshine (or rain or snow), for the yummy food in front of you (including where it came from and how it got all the way to our plates), the people in your life, or the fact that you get to experience being ALIVE on this beautiful blue planet we call Earth... literally anything!
I hope you all enjoy this game/challenge/new lifestyle habit, and please feel free to comment on this post with any experiences that come up for you - I'd love to hear about them :)
Have a fantastic day!
